St. Judes Industrial School is an Integrated Industrial School for the differently abled, the children of leprosy patients, rural poor and underprivileged is being run by Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre. It is recognized by the Government of Tamilnadu under the Directorate of Employment and Training (No. 10108 / IS. 1/07). Persons with disability, children of leprosy patients, SC / ST students and rural underprivileged are given preference in admission. The duration of the course is one year. Rehabilitation Council of India under The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi (No.8-411 / DSE (MR) 2005 – RCI : 6146) have recognized Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre to offer the course called as D.Ed.(S.E – MR) (Diploma in Education Special Education – Mental Retardation). The duration of the course is two years and those who complete this course will be employed as special educators in both Government and Non-Governmental organizations.
After the completion of the course the special educators would be competent in screening, assessment, education and rehabilitation of the persons with Mental Retardation.
Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre has been recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India (No. 18-5/2008/RCI-TNOU/3506) to conduct B.Ed specialized in Mental Retardation affiliated to Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU).
This is a two years course and eligible candidates are bachelor degree candidates of any discipline. The candidates passing out of the course have very good employment scope keeping in view the shortage of special teachers and disability management professionals in the field of Mental Retardation.
With inclusive education gaining momentum and large number of special children are mainstreamed in regular schools, the teachers of regular schools have to shoulder the additional responsibility of training and educating the special children. The teachers ought to be trained to handle there special children and plan Individualized Education Plans ( IEPs ) for them.
Here’s where foundation course comes for their help. It is a 6 months course offered in distance mode.
This programme aims to develop understanding and basic competencies in teachers and enables them to imbibe knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills to impart education efficiently to children with various disabilities.
Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre has been recognized to conduct this Foundation course and vows to develop the competencies of regular teachers to handle special children in their class rooms.
